Religious Trauma
Healing from Faith-Based Harm Without Losing Yourself
Religious trauma can leave deep wounds—especially when beliefs, authority figures, or communities caused fear, shame, or emotional harm. Whether you’ve experienced spiritual abuse, purity culture, excommunication, or years of internalized guilt, therapy offers a safe space to process what you’ve been through and reclaim your voice, body, and beliefs.
At our Raleigh-based therapy practice, we offer in-person and virtual, nonjudgmental support for individuals recovering from religious trauma and spiritual abuse, at any stage of deconstruction, healing, or identity rebuilding.
We Support Clients With:
Religious trauma and spiritual abuse (e.g., authoritarian control, shame)
Deconstruction or disillusionment with faith traditions
Recovery from purity culture, fear-based theology, or excommunication
Identity conflict around sexuality, gender, or neurodivergence within faith
Grief and loss around spiritual community or belief systems
Reclaiming trust in self, intuition, and personal autonomy
Navigating relationships with still-practicing family or communities
Rebuilding spirituality on your own terms (or not at all)
